Sumida Park and Akihabara District (end of day 1)

After Senso-ji we wanted to head to the Akihabara district, which is the electronics district in Tokyo. We decided to make a detour to the river to see what it was like and ended up finding a quaint little park called Sumida Park (named after the river) that was a popular cherry blossom viewing spot. Many people were having Hanami picnics.

Once we got to Akihabara, we headed to MacDonald's to rest our feet. A lot of restaurants here do not have seating for groups of people, only singles or couples. MacDonald's was no exception. We found three single seats together after someone was generous enough to shift over a seat. I got a Hokkaido melon shake. Very similar to the cantaloupe shakes I make at home and very good. 

MacDonald's is serious business, people were dressed for the occasion. 

 

Akihabara was the first place to have any sort of noise or frenetic energy. We passed through tiny stalls of electronics. You can get anything related to electronics you need here. There are also women dressed up as maids handing out flyers trying to get men to go to the maid cafes. It wasn't unlike Vegas. Akihabara was just a quick stop for us. 

 

 

 

For dinner we went to Izakaya at the Meat Man in Rappongi. It's a very westerner friendly place with an English menu, although the waitress didn't really speak English so we didn't get exactly what we ordered, but it was close enough. We managed to get a table for four without a wait which seems like a miracle here, so no complaints.
